National Seminar on “Role of Traditional Systems of Medicine in Healthcare Needs”
GIRD in association with Centre of Excellence in Unani Medicine, Jamia Hamdard, Delhi will be organizing a National Seminar on this subject in the Month of January 2026.
We invite participation and papers from scholars and subject experts.
Background
Evidence based incorporation of Indian traditional medicine in clinical practice is considered a useful strategy to ensure essential quality healthcare for all. This is because a large number of people have not benefitted from the achievements and progress made by the modern medical science on account of their high costs. Currently, many factors such as pollution, environmental toxins and unhealthy lifestyle have increased the risk of diseases and new diseases like viral infections are emerging leading to compromise in immunity. Besides, modern allopathic medicines are known to have serious side effects. For these reasons, to achieve the global health policy goal of “health for all” set by international organisations like the UN and WHO, scientific integration of traditional medicines into the healthcare practices and dispensations is is an acknowledged and felt necessity.
Need for Evidence-based Information
While large numbers of people do depend on traditional medicines, there is widespread skepticism and anxiety about their effectiveness for lack of evidence based information to the people. There is clearly a need for much information dissemination about the scientific evidence for the traditional medicines and their effective integration into modern healthcare practices in the formal sector. This is needed for increasing the confidence of the people about the traditional medicines being promoted in the formal sector and make the quality healthcare practices economical and affordable to the people, especially in the area of primary healthcare.
Conference Objective
In this background, the proposed Conference aims to take stock of the current status of inclusion of traditional medicines in the formal primary health care clinical practices and the people’s confidence and attitudes towards traditional medicine components.
